  1. Sep 5, 2011 · Bake it at 400F in an oven if possible. I fabricate roughly inch-and-a-half aluminum squares from 1mm-thick sheet aluminum stock (avaliable at your local hardware store), punch a 3/16" hole in them and use them under the nut to hold the shield where the now missing shield is.

  2. Oct 10, 2010 · There's a trick to getting the under-chassis heat shields to stay on. You have to be able to remove the OEM tinnerman nut (speed nut) from the stud that the heat shield rotted away from. It takes a 24mm socket to get those nuts off I believe.

  7. Nov 3, 2007 · I need to remove and reinstall the stock exhaust manifold heat shield, intact, in order to get at bolts underneath it. I have removed the four M6 bolts that hold the heat shield to the exhaust manifold but it appears to be so "wrapped" around the exhaust manifold that I have to destroy it to get it out.

  8. Mar 1, 2008 · If you're talking about the header heat shield then yes you should leave it installed and refasten it somehow. I have the same question about my exhaust heat shield under the car. If it's under the car i doubt it will make much of a difference but i could very well be wrong.
