Rich is Better Than Poor...Maybe is the tenth episode of Season 4 of Good Times, and also the seventy-first series episode overall. Written by Allan Mannings and Norman Paul, the episode, which was directed by Gerren Keith, premiered on CBS-TV, airing on December 8, 1976.
J.J. wins the lottery, but when word spreads throughout the neighborhood, Thelma's gangster friends show up at their apartment demanding the money.
The Evans and Willona buy lottery tickets since the prize money is high. They are excited when J.J.'s ticket is the winning number, and they win $2,500. Thelma tells her friends the good news, and the next day, school mates visit with guns.
