Henry Beaufort (c. 1375 – 11 April 1447) was an English Catholic prelate and statesman who held the offices of Bishop of Lincoln (1398), Bishop of Winchester (1404) and cardinal (1426). He served three times as Lord Chancellor and played an important role in English politics.

CARDINAL HENRY BEAUFORT was the natural son [i.e. born out of lawful wedlock] of John of Gaunt by Catherine Swynford. In 1398 he was made Bishop of Lincoln, and in 1405 translated to Winchester. In 1403 he was appointed Chancellor, but resigned the Great Seal on his appointment to Winchester.
