    • 1. (1886–1969), German-born architect and designer. He designed the German pavilion at the 1929 International Exhibition at Barcelona and the Seagram Building in New York (1954–8), and was noted for his tubular steel furniture. Before emigrating to the US in 1937, he served as director of the Bauhaus 1930–33.
