If memory serves, what made Mandrake special was that it was optimized for i686 out of the box. It was still 32-bit, but some users would see significant performance boosts on the P6 architecture. I believe that was Pentium Pro, Pentium II, and possibly the Pentium III, along with a few Celerons.
I am using Mandrake 6.5 and things have been going fairly well. I still have a few problems to sort out. The one I am most concerned about right now is the resolution.

Aug 30, 2004 · The modem works, I can connect to the internet with the modem commands through linux kppp, I can make a conection and it connects durring boot under pp0, but I cannot get the rest of linux to see it.
