The Falcon (Samuel Thomas "Sam" Wilson) is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was introduced by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Gene Colan in Captain America #117 (Sept. 1969), and was the first Black American superhero in mainstream comic books .
The Falcon was one of the first black super heroes with prominence in the Marvel Comics. Stan Lee introduced the Falcon to the public during a talk at Duke University. His talk was titled "Comics as a Reflection of Contemporary Culture," when he expressed his intentions of keeping comic books updated with social movements from that time.
