The New Bedford Whaling Museum is a museum in New Bedford, Massachusetts, United States that focuses on the history, science, art, and culture of the international whaling industry, and the colonial region of Old Dartmouth (now the city of New Bedford and towns of Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, and Westport) in the South Coast of Massachusetts.
We're a champion for whale conservation, and a keeper of the region's collective memory. Surrounded by cobblestone streets once strolled by Frederick Douglass and Herman Melville, the Museum is conveniently located within the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park.

Explore the Lagoda, the New Bedford Whaling Museum’s half-scale model of the whaling bark, built inside the Bourne Building in 1915-16. Learn about a whaling voyage from start to finish, from the business of whaling to the crew, and what happened on shipboard and at the docks.
The centerpiece of New Bedford, this excellent, hands-on museum remembers the town's heyday as a whaling port. The museum occupies seven buildings situated between William and Union Sts. A 66ft skeleton of a blue whale and a smaller skeleton of a sperm whale welcome you at the entrance.
