Jan 12, 2021 · Major therapies include use of desmopressin to induce endothelial release of stored von Willebrand factor (VWF) and factor VIII (FVIII) and use of VWF concentrates, including both plasma-derived and recombinant products, as well as adjuvant therapies, such as antifibrinolytic tranexamic acid.

Oct 26, 2021 · Many doctors consider desmopressin (DDAVP) the first treatment for managing von Willebrand disease. It can be used before minor surgical procedures to help control bleeding. You might be given a trial of desmopressin to make sure it's effective for you.
The most commonly used treatments include: Desmopressin (DDAVP): A synthetic hormone given by an injection into a vein or through a nasal spray called Stimate®. DDAVP causes an increased release of VWF from blood vessel cells. It is usually effective for most patients with type 1 and some with type 2 VWD.
The deficiency in this protein results in mucocutaneous bleeding, and post-traumatic or postsurgical bleeding. Diagnosing VWD may be problematic because of fluctuating clotting factor levels. The pathophysiology, laboratory diagnosis, and treatment of children and adolescents with VWD are discussed.

One medicine is desmopressin. It is a hormone that causes the body to release more von Willebrand factor into the bloodstream. It is given intravenously (IV), into your child's vein, or into your child's nose with a nasal spray. Another treatment is von Willebrand factor replacement therapy.
There are three main types of von Willebrand disease: Type 1 —A person with type 1 von Willebrand disease has low levels of von Willebrand factor and may also have low levels of clotting factor VIII. This is the most common form of von Willebrand disease. About three out of four people with von Willebrand disease have type 1.
