The Alcázar of Toledo (Spanish: Alcázar de Toledo, IPA: [alˈkaθaɾ ðe toˈleðo]) is a stone fortification located in the highest part of Toledo, Spain. It is a large quadrangular building measuring 60 meters on a side, framed by four large towers 60 meters high, each crowned by the typical Madrid spire .
Alcázar fortress in Toledo. It is today the site of the city's Army Museum. Its construction dates from Roman times. During the reigns of Alfonso VI and Alfonso X 'the Wise' it was rebuilt and became the first example of a square fortress with towers on the corners.

This is an absolutely amazing museum, covering not only the history of the Spanish army but also the history of Spain! Do NOT expect to see any interesting historic rooms of the old castle - the Alcazar was thoroughly destroyed during the civil war.
