Ann Lane Hedlund retired in 2013 but remains active in writing, publishing, and consulting with many museums and cultural centers. From 1997 to 2013, she served as a professor of anthropology and curator of ethnology at the Arizona State Museum on the U of A campus.

Ann Lane Hedlund is Director of the Gloria F. Ross Center for Tapestry Studies and curator of ethnology at the Arizona State Museum. Her books include Reflections of the Weaver’s World, Contemporary Navajo Weaving: Thoughts that Count, and Beyond the Loom: Keys to Understanding Early Southwestern Weaving.
Ann Lane Hedlund became program director for the GFR Tapestry Program in 2010. Since 1997, she is the founding director of the GFR Center for Tapestry Studies, 1997-2010. A cultural anthropologist, she has conducted ethnographic fieldwork among Navajo weavers since the mid-1970s.
The Schweitzer Collection came to Western Spirit in 2022 as a gift of Dr. Ann Lane Hedlund, in memory of her late husband and Mac’s son, Kit Schweitzer, and in honor of their relatives in the Cox, Moore, Schweitzer, and White families.
