Here is the essence of a TEDx talk by Anthony McCarten on what laughter is and does, and why we laugh. I think he has a major cognitive bias around laughter and limits it to primarily humor and comedy (it is SO MUCH MORE!!!) but I enjoyed his energy and wisdom.

Born in New Zealand, London-living Anthony McCarten is an award winning film-maker, novelist and playwright. As a film maker he has written five feature films and has directed two himself. All were screened internationally.
