Belle Isle Park, known simply as Belle Isle (/ b ɛ l ˈ aɪ ə l /), is a 982-acre (1.534 sq mi; 397 ha) island park in Detroit, Michigan, developed in the late 19th century. It consists of Belle Isle, an island in the Detroit River, as well as several surrounding islets.
GETTING TO THE PARK. Hours: 5am - 10pm, Daily. Fee: Vehicles entering the island require a recreation passport ($12 annual pass for Michigan residents grants access to all MI State Parks.) Passengers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders do not require a passport.
Accessible by a bridge at the foot of East Grand Boulevard, this 982-acre island park features a zoo, aquarium, conservatory, Great Lakes museum and plenty of room to hike, barbecue, watch boats, bicycle and more.
Eyes to the skies on June 26 for the dazzling (Once Around Belle Isle) — the annual kayak, paddleboard and surf-ski race and beach party — returns Aug. 12. Sitting in the international waters of the Detroit River, between the U.S. and Canada, the Isle is 2.5-miles long and 982 acres.
