Sweetchuck's name is based on that of Police Academy set decorator Steve Shewchuk. Cadet/Off. Zed McGlunk. Played by: Bobcat Goldthwait. In the second film, Zed was portrayed as a hyperactive, antisocial gang leader with odd mannerisms, appearance, and taste, but a basically good heart.

Goldthwait's first major film role was in Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985). He reprised the role in the next two films in the series. During the fall of 1993, Goldthwait did stand-up material as an opening act for Nirvana on what would be their final North American tour.

Apr 6, 2017 · But one of the more colorful figures is Bobcat Goldthwait’s Zed. Over the course of three sequels, Zed experiences a 3-act character arc. We watch him evolve from a violent gang-leader, to a reformed-yet-troubled cadet, to a police officer in love.
His movie career started with the dead serious but disappointing 1984 survivalist drama Massive Retaliation with Jason Gedrick. He played an amusing thug in Police Academy 2, and then made the same character into a rookie cop for Police Academy 3 and 4.
