He is best known for voicing Chucky in the Child's Play franchise (1988–present), portraying Gríma Wormtongue in The Lord of the Rings film series and his Oscar nominated role as Billy Bibbit in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975).

After joining Faye Dunaway and Tommy Lee Jones in the John Carpenter -scripted supernatural thriller Eyes of Laura Mars, Dourif was cast in David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation of sci-fi novel Dune, then later reunited with Lynch on Blue Velvet. 1988 proved to be a big year for Dourif.
