He portrayed Coy Duke, [1] one of the new Duke Boys, in the 1982–1983 season of The Dukes of Hazzard [2] for the first 19 episodes of season 5.
Cherry’s was doing well – until 1986, when Byron Cherry was injured badly in an accident. Unable to continue working, his son Richard (Sarah Cherry’s ex-husband) and Sarah took over the business.

American actor most famous for having portrayed Coy Duke in the 1982-1983 season of The Dukes of Hazzard. He appeared in the first 19 episodes of Season five.
He auditioned for the role of Bo Duke in 1979 with his longtime friend John Schneiderwho ended up being cast in the role.
He and Christopher Mayer, who played Vance Duke, were known as the "replacement Dukes," for having taken the place of their onscreen Dukes of Hazzard cousins, Bo Duke, played by Schneider, and Luke Duke, played by Tom Wopat, both of whom sat out Season five because of a contract dispute. He served as a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He had three sons, one of whom died in a car accident. He always considered Mayer, his Dukes costar, as his brother.
After his stint on Dukes of Hazzard, he appeared in other TV shows, such as Murder, She Wrote, starring Angela Lansbury, In the Heat of the Night, with Carroll O'Connor, and Vietnam War Story.
