Smychkov, a bassist, shows up too early for the ball of a beautiful princess, and decides to spend his extra time skinny dippingin the nearby lake. The princess, meanwhile, has gone fishing at the lake. Sep 20, 2013 · Nearly 40 years ago, in 1974, in the early post-Monty Python's Flying Circus era, a charming little one-off special, Romance with a Double Bass was written by John Cleese, Connie Booth and Bill Owen.
The princess is doing the same, unbeknownst to the bass player, but when someone steals their clothes, the bass player helps the princess to preserve her dignity by transporting her back to the castle in his bass case, and along the way they discover they have feelings for each other.
Cleese is a double bass player with a gig at a princesses wedding, and well, love happens. The romantic interest is Connie Booth, then Cleese's wife, and their pairing is an inspired choice.
