May 4, 2015 · A part of the museum at Cornwall Iron Furnace. Visits to the iron furnace itself are by guided tour. Tours start above the furnace, in the charging room, where the charcoal, limestone, and iron ore were put into the furnace to heat up the iron ore enough to create the finished iron products.

A fascinating look at the mechanics and engineering that went into an iron furnace from the 1700-1900. The guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. The facility is in very good condition.
Located ~2 hours from Philadephia, this place is a hidden gem. If you have any interest in the history of Pennsylvania's Iron and steel industry then this place is a must-do. They have a really nice guided tour into Charcoal based pig iron extraction. Total tour duration ~2 hours.
