Jun 23, 2010 · At 16 children enter rumspringa, a time that lasts between several months and several years, wherein teenagers explore the “english” world (known as the “devil’s playground”) and decide whether or not to join the Amish church.
The film follows several teens through their experiences during Rumspringa dampling life outside of the Amish community, many young people drive cars, wear modern clothes and cut and style their hair, have sexual relationships and some experiment with drugs.
The Devil's Playground is a fascinating and moving documentary about a little-known aspect of Amish life. Amish are not permitted to join the church until their late teens, and have to do so of their own volition.
