Oct 22, 2015 · Continue your interesting Poe odyssey with some of the more outlandish facts about Poe’s life. Most of Edgar Allan Poe’s best short stories are available in an excellent affordable annotated edition as The Fall of the House of Usher and Other Writings (Penguin Classics).
- The Spectacles. The narrator has a story he claims will support the idea of love at first sight. He has weak eyes, but being young and good-looking, doesn’t want to wear glasses.
- The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether. While in France the narrator visits an asylum. He had heard they used a “system of soothing” with the patients wherein punishments and confinement were avoided.
- The Cask of Amontillado. The narrator, Montresor, tells the story of how he sought revenge against a man, Fortunato, who insulted him. He was careful to hide his feeling of ill-will toward the man.
- The Island of the Fay. While walking deep into the mountains, a man finds a surreal looking island. While resting for a while under a bush, he sees a fairy.
