The film was shot at Lee International Studios in Wembley, London, and on location in Majorca, Spain in May 1981. The Majorca location was suggested by director Guy Hamilton, who had lived there for several years.

We loved going to Raixa estate so much that in the 9 days we stayed in Majorca we went there twice. The estate is simply beautiful, with a lot of history and different architectural styles.

Evil Under the Sun: Directed by Guy Hamilton. With Peter Ustinov, Colin Blakely, Jane Birkin, Nicholas Clay. Trying to find how a millionaire wound up with a phony diamond brings Hercule Poirot to an exclusive island resort frequented by the rich and famous.
The 2001 TV adaptation of Agatha Christie's Evil Under the Sun used the island as a filming location. Several scenes from the BBC’s 1987 dramatisation of Christie’s story Nemesis were filmed in the hotel.
Filming for this episode mainly took place at the Burgh Island Hotel, Devon, a location which was inspiration for the original novel and And Then There Were None. Much of the plot remained the same as the novel, though the adaptation made a few changes:
