The 57-acre Frances Perkins Homestead National Historic Landmark along the banks of the Damariscotta River in Newcastle, Maine, is the ‘place of the heart’ of Frances Perkins.
Frances Perkins’ ancestral homestead, a National Historic Landmark, is a saltwater farm consisting of 57 acres of woods and fields along the Damariscotta River in Newcastle, Maine. The 1837 brick home is listed as “The Brick House Historic District” in the National Register of Historic Places.
The Frances Perkins Center, a tiny homage to the first woman Cabinet Secretary in the US, is discreetly located on Main Street in the sweet town of Damariscotta, near the home of Perkins' grandparents in New Castle where she summered as a child.

The Frances Perkins Center is a nonprofit organization located in Newcastle, Maine. [1] [2] Its mission is to inspire current and future generations to understand and uphold the government's role in providing social justice and economic security for all, based on the vision of workers’ rights advocate Frances Perkins.
The nonprofit, nonpartisan Center is currently headquartered in downtown Damariscotta, Maine where it offers a free interpretive exhibit on the life and achievements of Frances Perkins — the first woman to serve in a U.S. Cabinet, a key advisor to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and a lifelong advocate for social justice and economic security.
