A Basset is an INSIDE dog and not meant to be outside for long periods of time without proper supervision. Our ultimate goal is to work with our adopters in order to place our rescues in the best home possible.
Since 1998, GABR and its supporters have rescued over 5,000 basset hounds. These dogs have learned that “Rescue is the Golden Ticket!” They have been placed in homes where they receive all the love and attention they deserve. They have a second chance at life. The provide needed vet care and place dogs in foster homes which evaluate the dogs to assist the adoption coordinators in finding them good homes.
Guardian Angel Basset Rescue, Inc. is the largest Basset Hound rescue in the Midwest. As of the end of 2020, GABR has rescued and placed over 5,000 Bassets in new homes. As a 501c3, all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
The basics of Guardian Angel Basset Rescue are simple – GABR rescues Basset Hounds from Illinois, Eastern Missouri and Indiana that find themselves in bad situations. Once the Basset is in our possession, we provide the needed vet care - that cost is our largest expense.
