Aug 25, 2021 · I have to admit, reading about James Watkins's spacious Lubbock, Texas, studio in the September 2021 Ceramics Monthly made me a tiny bit jealous! But after I let go of those envious feelings, I appreciated all the great tips he has for setting up a studio smartly.
He is a ceramic artist living in Lubbock, Texas who has worked with clay for over 40 years. He is known for his large scale double-walled ceramic vessels and laser cut porcelain substrate [2] tiles. He is recognized for his textured surfaces, created by using alternative firing techniques. [3] .

James Watkins is best known for large double-walled stoneware vessels, or caldrons; he also has made teapots, platters, tiles, and other functional pots. Surface techniques include terra sigillata as well as stannous chloride fumed gold and platinum luster.
