J.D. Stacy is best remembered for his NASCAR team ownership, beginning in 1977 with the purchase of Nord Krauskopf's K&K Insurance Racing team.
Stacy, a resident of Arizona was in Concord to appear in court for a loan-related lawsuit. After the expansion to a second team in 1978, he went winless, losing a substantial amount of money. As a result, accusations of him not paying the dues were levied by his crew chief Harry Hyde and driver Ferrel Harris.
