Kai Chresten Winding (/ ˈ k aɪ ˈ w ɪ n d ɪ ŋ / KY WIN-ding; May 18, 1922 – May 6, 1983) was a Danish-born American trombonist and jazz composer. He is known for his collaborations with fellow trombonist J. J. Johnson .
Dec 15, 2020 · Kai Winding was born in Aarhus, Denmark, 18 May 1922, and emigrated with his family to the USA in 1934. He was largely self-taught and began his professional career with the Sonny Dunham and Alvino Rey bands before spending three years with the US Coast Guard from 1942.
