Collection online. The Kunstmuseum Basel’s collections comprise ca. 4,000 paintings, sculptures, videos, and works of installation art, as well as the ca. 300,000 drawings and prints from seven centuries held by the Kupferstichkabinett. Obviously, we cannot present more than a small fraction of these treasures at our three venues.

The Kunstmuseum's current and main building was designed and constructed 1931-1936 by architects Paul Bonatz and Rudolf Christ, [5] adjacent to the former building of the Swiss National Bank in Basel. In 1980, a building beside the Rhine in the St. Alban neighborhood was added as an additional location for the museum, the Contemporary Art Museum.
Art Basel 2024: Nakhane, «Endo-» – Performance. The well-known South African singer, songwriter, actress and writer is coming to Basel with the musical performance "Endo-", which was commissioned by the Kunstmuseum Basel especially for the exhibition "When We See Us. One Hundred Years of Pan-African Figurative Painting". Costs: CHF 25/15.
