The Legion of Honor, formally known as the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, is an art museum in San Francisco, California. Located in Lincoln Park, the Legion of Honor is a component of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, which also administers the de Young Museum.
The Legion of Honour is a national order of France, meaning a public incorporated body. The Legion is regulated by a civil law code, the "Code of the Legion of Honour and of the Military Medal".
The museum opened to the public on Armistice Day, November 11, 1924, in dedication to the memory of the 3,600 Californians who perished in World War I. Located in Lincoln Park in San Francisco, the Legion of Honor has provided access to priceless art for nearly 100 years.
