  1. Film critic Glenn Erickson regarded the picture as high camp in his 2009 review: As the 1950s rolled in director King Vidor's brilliant but eccentric pictures became much more eccentric than brilliant.

  2. Ruth Roman is stuck starring in a rather dopey movie. The acting is generally good and the atmosphere also quite good...but the plot is just stupid. The film begins with a man being re-tried in court for murdering his wife. A holdout of the jury results in a mistrial* and he is let free.

  3. Lightning Strikes Twice: Directed by King Vidor. With Ruth Roman, Richard Todd, Mercedes McCambridge, Zachary Scott. Sent to a dude ranch in the west to recover her health, a New York actress falls in love with a ranch owner recently acquitted of the murder of his wife.

  5. Variety's review was generally favorable for Lightning Strikes Twice and its director. "Film has suspense and movement, along with good character development, to keep it always interesting....King Vidor overlooks no bets to keep suspense tight and the real culprit cloaked right up to the finale."

It's a very curious film noir with this fish out of water on vacation no less in a dry local of a dude ranch and is played by Ruth Roman (Shelley Carnes) who randomly gets sucked into these locals lives full of money, land and lust and succumbs to be involved.
