Coordinates: 40.571°N 111.707°W. Little Cottonwood Canyon lies within the Wasatch-Cache National Forest along the eastern side of the Salt Lake Valley, roughly 15 miles from Salt Lake City, Utah. The canyon is part of Granite, a CDP and "Community Council" designated by Salt Lake County.

7 miles | 15 minutes to Alta | Map. Few places so near an urban area are so rich in diversity. Local residents of the Wasatch Front have all of this right here in our “backyard.” The granite cliffs are a paradise for both rock climbers and the mountain goats you might see as you drive the byway.

Only 25 miles from Salt Lake City, Little Cottonwood Canyon can be reached by taking the 6200 South "Canyons" exit from I-215 and continue east to the canyon on U-210 following signs for Snowbird and Alta. At the mouth of the canyon is the site where Latter-day Saint settlers quarried granite slabs to build the Salt Lake Temple.
