Project X is a 1987 American science fiction drama film produced by Walter F. Parkes and Lawrence Lasker, directed by Jonathan Kaplan, and starring Matthew Broderick and Helen Hunt. The plot revolves around a USAF Airman (Broderick) and a graduate student (Hunt) who are assigned to care for chimpanzees used in a secret Air Force project.

- It contains a number of continuity and factual errors. Whilst all films contain some errors or continuity issues, Project X does seem to have a lot more than you would expect from a Hollywood production that had a budget of $18 million.
- It was the first ever film to be shown on Sky Movies in the UK. Project X holds the honour of being the very first film to be shown on Sky Movies in the UK and Ireland, upon the channel’s launch on the 5th of February 1989.
- It contains a reference to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Only the eagle-eyed among you will have spotted the film’s sole reference to Matthew Broderick’s 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, which comes in the scene where security guards are watching sport on TV.
- Virgil the chimp lived the rest of his life alongside his on-screen girlfriend. Virgil the chimpanzee was played by Willie, and his on-screen ‘girlfriend’ was actually played by another male chimp called Harry.

Virgil, the gifted chimpanzee in "Project X," does not quite upstage Matthew Broderick, but it's one of the strengths of this movie that he deserves co-star billing. W. C. Fields hated to appear in the same scene with a baby, an animal or a plunging neckline.
