The Narvik Shield (German: Narvikschild) was a World War II German military decoration awarded to all German forces that took part in the battles of Narvik between 9 April and 8 June 1940. It was instituted on 19 August 1940 by Adolf Hitler .
The Battles of Narvik were fought from 9 April to 8 June 1940, as a naval battle in Ofotfjord and as a land battle in the mountains surrounding the north Norwegian town of Narvik, as part of the Norwegian Campaign of the Second World War.
The Narvik Shield (Narvikschild) was designed by Professor Dr Richard Klein of Munich, and instituted on the 19th August 1940 by Adolf Hitler with the decree published in "Reichsgesetzblatt" (Number 154) on the 28th August for the army, followed on the 12th and 13th of September for the navy and air force respectively.
