Philippe Pierre Cousteau (30 December 1940 – 28 June 1979) was a French diver, sailor, pilot, photographer, author, director and cinematographer specializing in environmental issues, with a background in oceanography.
Philippe Cousteau Jr. was born in Santa Monica, California, in 1980 to Jan Cousteau, the widow of Philippe Cousteau, who was killed in a plane crash six months before the birth; he is the grandson of Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Cousteau grew up in France and the United States.
