Gil and Rowdy help four stranded women with a broken wagon, allowing them to accompany the trail herd to the next town. On the way, they reach a river crossing and enter into a dispute over who will cross first with some traders approaching from the other side.
Sgt Turner (William Marshall) is a fugitive from the Army. On the lam, he meets Rowdy and steals his horse. But because he spared Rowdy's life, when Rowdy captures him, Rowdy gives him work in the trail drive.

After a marshal and deputy are wounded and killed, Gil and Rowdy volunteer to finish the delivery of the prison wagon with seven dangerous prisoners to Ft Craig for trial, while the outlaw husband of one prisoner is in pursuit to free her.
