"Saka no ue no kumo" centers around Yoshifuru Akiyama (Hiroshi Abe), his older brother Saneyuki Akiyama (Masahiro Motoki), and poet Masaoka Shiki (Teruyuki Kagawa) during the Russo-Japanese War. The drama depicts Japan's modernization in the Meiji era through the help of the Akiyama brothers.
