May 20, 2024 · Sherrod Brown (born November 9, 1952, Mansfield, Ohio, U.S.) is an American politician who was elected as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate in 2006 and began representing Ohio the following year. Brown grew up in Mansfield, Ohio, where he was active in the Boy Scouts, eventually becoming an Eagle Scout.
Sherrod serves as Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, where he played an instrumental role in passing the historic Wall Street reform law that established new consumer protections, created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and reined in big banks.

Brown was born on November 9, 1952 in Mansfield, Ohio. His ancestors the Campbells were slave owners who forced many Cherokee people out of Georgia, in acts of genocide. Brown studied at Yale University and at Ohio State University.
