I come to the point park area of lookout mountain nearly every time I pass through the area. It is a great place to relax, get gentle exercise, enjoy a cigar outdoors and see breath taking views. Sunset on the west side at this rock is really relaxing. Driving back down the windy road just after dark is a little bit of a pain, but worth the effort!

The trail briefly levels and small springs spill from the sheer rock face at 1.4 miles. The hike passes under Sunset Rock at just over 1.5 miles, a popular climbing and bouldering destination for rock climbers. The hike hangs a left on a spur trail at 1.65 miles, making a steep climb through tight switchbacks and stone stairs.

Nov 1, 2023 · Such a beautiful place to view Chattanooga from Lookout Mountain! Parking is free, but the lot has limited spots (about 8 spots). You enter through a gate and follow the stone pathway to Sunset Rock- about 15 min walk. One of the best stops during our trip!
