Thayer David (March 4, 1927 – July 17, 1978) was born David Thayer Hersey in Medford, Massachusetts. As an actor, he starred in various film and television projects since the 1950's, but is best known for playing the raspy-voiced Professor Stokes on the 1966 ABC television series, Dark Shadows.

He was best known for his work on the ABC serial Dark Shadows (1966–1971), as Dragon, the Albino ex-Nazi Director of C-2 in The Eiger Sanction (1975) and as the fight promoter Miles Jergens in Rocky (1976).
The smash daytime horror soaper Dark Shadows had premiered in 1966, and David was in on the ground floor as perfect for several characters to emerge through the series run (1966 to 1971). He played seven characters in the course of the show, the most prominent being Professor T. Elliot Stokes.
