Mann is so well known for his wildly successful production line of jewelry that Thomas Mann Design, his company, sometimes obscures Tom Mann, the crafts artist behind it. In 1980, he launched what he would come to call Techno-Romantic jewelry, now found in more than 150 shops.
Thomas Robert Mann (born 1947) is an American jewelry artist known primarily for his metalsmithing and assemblage techniques. Combining industrial-style metals with found trinkets and baubles, Mann has dubbed his style "Techno-Romantic" and runs Studio I/O in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he now lives and works. Thomas Mann (Tom Mann) is an artist who works in the medium of jewelry and sculpture. The primary design vocabulary which he employs in the making of jewelry objects combines industrial aesthetics and materials with evocative romantic themes and imagery. He calls this design system Techno Romantic.
