The story was inspired by then prominent U.S. Senator Estes Kefauver's strong-arm tactics in coercing Virginia Hill to testify in the infamous Bugsy Siegel organized crime prosecution.

Tight Spot is based on Leonard Kantor's novel Dead Pigeon, which in turn was obviously inspired by Virginia Hill's appearance before the Kefauver Committee. Ginger Rogers plays hard-boiled model Sherry Conley, who is serving a prison term for a crime she didn't commit.
Offered freedom in exchange for testifying against a mobster, a jailed former model (Ginger Rogers) slowly develops a connection to the cop guarding her (Brian Keith), but faces danger from those who want her silenced, in this crime thriller co-starring Edward G Robinson.
