The couple met in the later part of the 1950s when they were both attending college as music students. Vanessa Williams’ parents reportedly dated for a few days before going to tie the marriage knot in 1960.
Her parents are of African American, Welsh and Native American descent. Williams and her younger brother Chris, who is also an actor, grew up in Millwood, a predominantly white middle-class suburban area. Prophetically, her parents put "Here she is: Miss America" on her birth announcement.
