  1. Zoo is a fictionalised representation of true events. Belfast Zoo had to shoot some of its animals during World War 2. The city had to withstand German air raids in 1941. Some schoolkids led by Tom Hall rescue the baby elephant Buster from the zoo and hide it in the house of a reclusive, eccentric elderly lady. Her house is a menagerie.

  2. The movie centers around the boy saving a young elephant from soldiers ordered to execute the zoo animals. Sounds horrendous but it is handled so delicately by the director. We loved the film and would definitely recommend to families with children 8 years and upwards. Be warned though, it is a little weepy at the end.

  8. 8 likes. Mark Cunliffe 🇵🇸 ★★★. An amiable if heavily embellished account of 'the Elephant Angel' of Belfast Zoo in the Blitz of WWII. Ian O'Reilly, who often stole the Chris O'Dowd series Moone Boy, does the same here with the comic supporting role of Pete, whilst Penelope Wilton continues to inch towards national treasure status.
