  2. Apr 11, 2024 · The 1990s were a transformative decade for men’s fashion, characterized by a blend of grunge, minimalism, and streetwear influences that still resonate in today’s fashion landscape.

    • Baggy Jeans. Baggy jeans became an iconic men’s style during the ‘90s. By the middle of the decade, this look had caught fire and moved out of the underground and niche subcultures of skaters, punks, and rappers and into the mainstream.
    • Windbreakers. The casual look of the windbreaker also highlighted the color blocks that transitioned from the ‘80s into the ‘90s. These windbreakers were light and casual and often paired with denim for an iconic aesthetic that is definitely back in style.
    • Graphic Tees. Like many fashion trends in the ‘90s, the graphic tee was inspired by a subculture of the time, in this case, the skater boy. In the 1990s, bands and skate labels had begun using the stylish t-shirt to promote their brands.
    • Snapback Hats. Much of the fashion in the ‘90s was inspired by the music of the time, including the classic snapback hat, which came along with the increasingly mainstream hip hop style.
    • Baggy Jeans. They swallowed shoes, they trailed on the floor and they absorbed rainwater like big denim sponges. Yet, despite their shortcomings, baggy jeans were everywhere in the 1990s.
    • Leather. The 1990s isn’t the decade most associated with the leather jacket. That mantel would have to go three decades earlier, to the 1950s. This was when the popular image of the leather-clad, denim-wearing bad boy first began to crop up, with the likes of James Dean and Marlon Brando embodying a new era of disaffected youth.
    • Long Hair. For the last decade, short and mid-length cuts have reigned supreme, but there was a time when longer styles were the haircuts du jour. Nineties icons like Kurt Cobain, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio made long flowing hair for men look good, while the mullets and Flock of Seagulls weirdness of the previous decade faded (thankfully) into obscurity.
    • Bucket Hats. We could sit and debate the pros and cons of bucket hats all day, but not unlike Liam Gallagher himself, you either love them or hate them.
