While that may not seem like a big deal to most people, there are some movie lovers out there who will respond to that news with the kind of giddiness that a fanboy might feel toward a new "Star Wars" movie.

  2. Jul 22, 2014 · Gregory and Demme have turned A Master Builder into (pardon my invoking the name of a Strindberg work) a dream play, and have made it once more madly, bitingly, chillingly alive. To get the ...

Twenty years after their brilliant cinema-theater experiment Vanya on 42nd Street, Wallace Shawn and André Gregory reunited to produce another idiosyncratic film version of a classic play, this time Henrik Ibsen’s Bygmester Solness (Master Builder Solness). Brought pristinely to the screen by Jonathan Demme, this compellingly abstract reimagining ...

  4. Jul 21, 2014 · At times, A Master Builder feels too pleased with its artistic bona fides, and the cleverness of the various resonances is too neat and hermetic. It doesn’t emotionally open up in the fashion of Louis Malle’s collaborations with Shawn and André Gregory, so much as close in on itself, possibly locking the viewer out.
