- A real oddball of a movie, this is a blend of psychological thriller and ecological parable. Although it's impressively shot in widescreen by Mike Molloy, the film never maintains a consistent tone, with the descent into grotesquerie for the final sequences particularly misjudged.

Sep 3, 1999 · Bobby wrestles for the wheel, the truck overturns, the driver is killed, and everything is witnessed by a man standing beside the road. This is Mr. Summers ( John Hurt ), a gentle and intelligent recluse who lives in a cottage in the woods and devotes his life to burying dead animals.
Bobby (Christian Bale) is a mentally handicapped young man with an affinity for animals. He runs away from home after his stepfather (Daniel Benzali) kills all his pets.
