Marco Cassamonti of Archea Associati designed the new stadium’s layout. This design reflected an 8-faceted rectangle with each side allowing access into different functions of the structure.
The stadium was demolished in June 2016 to make way for the new national stadium called the Arena Kombëtare, was constructed on the same site and opened in November 2019. It has since been rebuilt in 2022.
