D’Artaguiette drew a map that clearly located the settlement on the north side of the River Des Peres at the point where it emptied into the Mississippi; today the site is at the southern boundary of the city of St. Louis. In the 1760s, Clement Delor de Treget established a new settlement in the vicinity, just south of the River Des Peres.
