David Hurwitz (born 29 August 1961) is an American music critic and author who specializes in classical music. Based in New York, Hurwitz is the founder and executive editor of ClassicsToday.com and frequently reviews recordings there.
The best critics and educators in music are open-minded, insightful and helpful. Dave Hurwitz is none of these. He's openly dismissed Baroque music, even the great JS Bach, and has no open-ness to contemporary music. He just likes what he likes (a very limited taste) and tells other people they should like it too just cos he does.

Excellent critic and analyst. Agree or disagree, he makes his cases citing musical examples, knows how to read a score, and is entertaining as hell. The claim that he is critical of all performance practices since the 1950s is belied by his advocacy of conductors like Charles Mackerras, Bruggen, and Harnoncourt.
