He was the son of Wartislaw IX of Pomerania-Wolgast and Sophia of Saxe-Lauenburg (d. 1462, daughter of Eric IV of Saxe-Lauenburg).

Erich II's first marriage with Margarete of Mecklenburg, daughter of duke Heinrich of Mecklenburg-Stargard [1], is uncertain and has been refuted by historian Adolf Hofmeister [2] .
