Hollywood Professional School has been in my memory for over 25 years. When I’ve told people about the school, I’ve only had the school yearbooks to prove that such a place existed. I have always treasured those yearbooks, and have enjoyed showing people pictures of the school’s famous alumni.
Just a few of the many notable alumni include, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Betty Grable, Andy Williams, Melanie Griffith and Val Kilmer.Photograph caption dated September 10, 1956 reads, "An alumna of Hollywood Professional School is Miss Barna McDevitt who is shown above receiving an honorary award at the school's spring commencement exercises.
The Hollywood Professional School, located at 5400 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, was a private school for working children in the entertainment business which ran from 1935-1984. It offered classes only in the mornings so that students could work in the afternoons.
