  1. I think Mean Streets is straight up one of the best movies ever made, it practically invented a whole new style of American cinema, and might be my favorite Scorsese overall. It's obviously not as polished as some of his later masterpieces like Raging Bull or Goodfellas but the roughness suits it anyway.

  3. Scorsese is in love with tragedy. Although I prefer Goodfellas and Casino, I think Mean Streets holds up story wise. As for technical details, I think the title "Mean Streets" can explain exactly what Scorsese was going for with the cinematography. It's supposed to have a rough, and unpolished feel to it. It adds to the film.
